01 / What we do

Two arms, one method.

Both arms start the same way: write down the equations that govern a physical process, then build the machine or the controller that holds it where it should be.

Gasification & energy systems

Modular, containerised units break biomass, agricultural residue and sorted municipal waste into syngas under oxygen-starved heat. Out comes 24/7 electricity, heat, and stable biochar that locks carbon into soil.

A contract research group working on continuous-time models of living systems, reinforcement learning with hard safety guarantees, and the compression that makes both run on edge hardware at the plant.

02 / Research arm

AI systems that steer living processes.

Beyond waste-to-energy, Equation Labs designs the AI and control layer for autonomous biological systems — proven on the OptiVX closed-loop cultivation platform for floating aquatic plants.

The research group was primary R&D partner on OptiVX work package AP1 — Core AI & ML Models — delivering the continuous-time models, the safe controller and the certification campaign across 29 accounted work phases.

We model continuous biological dynamics with NDEs — learning the rule by which a living system evolves, not just memorising data points.

Controllers train in simulation and transfer to the real world (Sim-to-Real). A Safe-RL barrier-function filter guarantees the controller physically cannot harm the system.
